The Natural World, Sculptured Works
I grew up in Wisconsin where I appreciated the country, wildlife, a wide variety of art and the joy of working with my hands. I earned a degree in education from Arizona State University which eventually took me to Homer Alaska in 1980. In Alaska I was introduced to a whole new world of outdoor adventure. The pursuit of the outdoors rekindled my enjoyment of working with my hands and in time led me back to my interest in art.
I have chosen to work with wood because of it's earthly beauty and it's vulnerability. I love to walk along the beach, rummaging through wood that has washed up with the tide or fallen from erosion, searching for the contours that inspire a beautiful carving defined by nature. Recently I have expanded into working on the lathe creating multi-axis sculptural pieces.
