Student Art Show
Featuring 50 pieces of art from local students
March 2 – March 28, 2012
First Friday Reception on March 2nd from 5 to 7 pm.
This month's exhibit will be showcasing artwork created by eighth grade students
from Homer Middle School and high school students from both Homer High and Homer
Flex school. These artworks are not being offered for sale, but through participation
in this show, we hope to generate student awareness and interest in our annual
Visual Arts Scholarship, which is awarded each May to a deserving student. In our
application
process, we ask local 11th and 12th grade students to submit five examples of
their artwork, two letters of recommendation and an essay on what art means to them,
why they feel they need this scholarship and how they plan on using it, either
through college courses, workshops or private lessons. During the past few years
we have also offered the scholarship as a means to buy art supplies, create a
viable work space/studio or help with starting an art business. The deadline
for the application and artwork submission this year is April 20, 2012.
For this show, our scholarship committee has been working with local teachers and
relying on them to generate interest and a desire in their students to produce
quality art that will be selected by the art teachers for display in this show.
Fifty pieces in a range of media have been selected to exhibit. Please come out
this First Friday and support your local budding, young student artists; many of
them will be in attendance at the artist reception so you can meet them and
personally express your encouragement of their talents.
Images may take awhile to load, so please be patient . . .
