Scholarship Art & Adventure Silent Auction Fundraiser
More than 50 items donated by artists and local businesses.
November 4 – November 28, 2011
All Bidding opens at the First Friday Reception on November 4, 5-7 pm.
Each year Ptarmigan Arts invites local high school juniors and seniors to apply
for a visual arts scholarship, usually totaling $500-$600, this sum being collected
as an annual fee from each Ptarmigan artist. At our monthly co-op meeting in May,
the students present their art to us and discuss what art means to them and how
they plan on pursuing art post-high school, either through college courses,
workshops or private lessons. During the past few years we have also offered the
scholarship as a means to buy art supplies, create a viable work space/studio or
help with starting their own art business.
Recently we have established a scholarship committee to come up with new ideas on
how to raise more funds to give to individual students or to be able to give more
than one scholarship annually, as well as getting the word out to more
students/parents/schools; thus the "birth" of the Art & Adventure Silent Auction
Fundraiser we are sponsoring for the month of November. Gary Lyon has asked many
local artists and businesses to contribute to this show and we have well over 50
pieces donated (please checkout the rotating slide show of art below), along with
services/adventures, including Hot Stone Massage Therapy by Rita Turner, 1/2 Day
Halibut Charter with Rainbow Tours, Bear Viewing with Bald Mountain Air,
Combination of Dinner gift certificate at Captain Pattie's, an overnight stay
at Sea Lion Cove, Ride on the Danny J to Halibut Cove, Ashore Water
Taxi trip and a King Salmon Charter with Captain Pete.
Ptarmigan Artists have volunteered to make the food for the First Friday Reception
along with donating their time to help you with any questions you might have about
the art or bidding process. Each piece will have a silent auction bid sheet near
it and we ask you to put your name, phone number, email and bid amount on the sheet.
We will then be able to notify you and let you know when you have been out-bid and
give you the chance to bid higher. Each piece will have a minimum bid listed along
with a buy-it-now option. We truly hope you bid high and often!! What a great
opportunity for buying Christmas presents, collecting beautiful artwork OR going
on a fun adventure for two AS WELL AS supporting a worthwhile cause – students
and the arts!!
