Ptarmigan Arts Gallery is happy to announce that Jean Steele is our artist for the weekend Pop-up show beginning at noon on Friday, December 16th and going through the weekend December 17th and 18th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Here is her Artist Statement in her own words:
“I love painting! I find a great deal of joy transporting into another realm with my various painting media. Most recently, I’ve moved back to doing watercolor. It’s been about 20 years since my last watercolor painting.
“Watercolor requires both spontaneous and meticulous planning. The challenge is to find the balance. My most recent works are abstract landscapes. They have a dreamlike quality and include a little fantasy.
“Finding titles is a separate kind of fun. Dream Valley, Ghost Mountain, Tribute Point are examples. Or how about Bosom, Timeless, The Craigs.
“Another joy is making jewelry with copper and gemstones. Copper is a warm and forgiving material. Combine that with the gemstones and it’s irresistible. I have certain favorites, but I like to explore new or sometimes obscure stone beads and cabochons. One stone that is quite lovely can be bright yellow to orange with a variety of colors called Bumblebee Jasper. Another stone, one of the oldest rocks on earth at two billion years, is a variety of amethyst called Auralite. There is so far only one place on earth where it is found!”
Jean’s Pop-up Show will start from noon to 6:00 pm on Friday, December 16th. Then Saturday and Sunday, December 17th and 18th, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm both days. Jean will be present throughout the weekend demonstrating her watercolor techniques.
Over the years gallery members have observed Jean’s creativity, which is simply amazing. Also don’t miss this opportunity to see her in person painting with watercolors! Her jewelry is also totally unique and, like her painting, always evolving. And, this is a great Christmas shopping opportunity. Happy Holidays!
