Joan Smiley: Fiber Artist

My art is inspired by a dream, whimsy, travel, news, people, nature, music and/or something extraordinary about the ordinary. Luckily, my mother taught me to sew at a young age and my Nana taught me to quilt. I enjoy thinking about these loving and talented women as I let my imagination and ideas flow through me. I enjoy knowing Fiber Art gives any home a custom look and feel at a reasonable price.
I was born and raised in Ballard (a Norwegian community in Seattle) and worked at Microsoft for many years. I spent summers on my grandparent’s farm in Washington State and developed a deep love of nature and animals. I also lived in Snoqualmie Pass for five years where I skied all winter and traveled every summer. My biggest passion in life is traveling and I’ve now been to all seven continents. I came to Homer on a spur-of-the moment vacation in October 2001 and after an hour in town , I thought, “I’m movin’ here!” and did six months later.
I hope you enjoy the show!
