By Kachemak Bay Quilters
Welcome to the new Back Room Gallery (BRG) exhibit of wonderful quilts! Our Ptarmigan Arts Gallery is happy to host an April show by the Kachemak Bay Quilters (a group of Homer area quilters). These quilters meet regularly to quilt, to share their progress, to complete projects and to learn from each other.
The quilts on display in the BRG are mostly “challenge” quilts, which are small quilts created according to a specific theme. There are two local challenges each year:
- One challenge for the Kachemak Bay Quilters annual quilt show on Mother’s Day weekend in Homer, and
- One challenge sponsored by the Kenai Peninsula Quilt Guild (KPQG) and many of the Homer quilters also belong to this Guild.
The KPQG quilts go on tour around the Kenai Peninsula for a year and then these tour quilts are returned to their respective quilters.
Some of the past challenges represented in our BRG show include:
- Alaska Flowers
The challenges for 2017 are “Between the Tides” that will debut at the Homer quilt show and “Chemistry” for the Kenai Peninsula Quilt Guild.
The new BRG show will be on display until May 2. The First Friday reception for Challenge Quilts will be on April 7, from 7-9 pm.
All you quilters and quilt fans out there are in for a real treat. Homer has some outstanding quilters so come on in for the reception or during the month of April and admire their beautiful artwork. See you there!
