A LOCAL COOPERATIVE GALLERY

A BRUSH WITH COLLAGE

By Sharlene Cline

The Back Room Gallery (BRG) is happy to welcome Homer artist Sharlene Cline with an exhibit of her artwork entitled A Brush with Collage for December and January.

Sharlene inhales the complicated world around her and responds to it with her art.  She responds by distilling nature, like sparrows perched on fireweed, by its essence and Chi (or breath of life), and by conversing with world issues.  In her show she achieves this response through layers of Chinese brushwork, decorative paper, and acrylics.

The last season for Sharlene as a restaurateur, pastry chef and sommelier was 2016.  Since that time she has completed a new body of artwork of playful collages as well as continuing to develop her climate change project.

Sharlene has exhibited locally and nationally including her Moving Towards Center project in Homer.  She has exhibited at the Intercultural Museum Art Gallery in Baltimore and the Dadian Gallery at the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C.  She is represented in numerous private collections in Canada, Ecuador, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Taiwan and the United States.

And Sharlene also enjoys working with students that includes curating Kids Art Show, ArtQuest and 350.org.  She has taught art, especially Chinese brushwork, to children with the Alaska Artist for Schools program.

The opening reception will be held on First Friday, December 1 from 5-7 pm.  Refreshments will be served.  Come join us and help welcome Sharlene Cline with her new show for our Back Room Gallery.
