A LOCAL COOPERATIVE GALLERY

PART & PARTICLE by Alaska Wax

Ptarmigan Arts Gallery is proud to feature a group exhibit of ten members of the Anchorage based chapter of encaustic artists called AlaskaWax in the Back Room Gallery for the months of December and January. Encaustic is a beeswax-based paint consisting of beeswax, resin and pigment. It is kept molten on a hot palette, applied to a surface and then reheated to fuse the paint to an enamel-like finish.

This show is a continuation of a September group exhibit that was hung at Doriola’s in Anchorage. The show requires every piece to be square in shape and includes a collaborative project of 6”x6” panels of a photo of XtraTuf Boots. Many of the AlaskaWax artists created their own version of this purely Alaskan image.

Participating Artists: Amy Hunt, Aracelis Bell, Cheryl Lyons, Dot Tideman, Janaan Kitchen, Joyce Coolidge, Kathy Smith, Laurel Epps, Gayla Ranf, Ruth Carter, Rivka Zorea & Therese Stokes Falldorf. Curators are Laurel Epps and Kathleen Drew.

The exhibit will remain on display through January until February 5, 2015.
