PASSION/COMPASSION

By Ptarmigan Arts Artists

The Back Room Gallery (BRG) at Ptarmigan Arts presents Passion/Compassion for the months of February and March.  This is a member show featuring artwork that represents what those two concepts means to our artists.

Let’s review the meaning of these two profound words—passion and compassion.

Passion:  Your passion can be anything that simultaneously challenges you, intrigues you and motivates you.  Contrary to the idea that doing what you love makes work effortless, a passion puts you to work.  Passion is any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling of love or its opposite.  Passion is when a person feels a strong love or desire for another person.  It can be a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything–like a passion for music or art.

Compassion:  If someone shows kindness, caring, and a willingness to help others, they are showing compassion.  This is a word for a very positive emotion that has to do with being thoughtful and decent.  Giving to a charity takes compassion.  Volunteering to work with sick people or animals takes compassion.  Compassion literally means “to suffer together.”  Among emotion researchers, it is defined as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering.

Our new BRG show Passion/Compassion will feature an eclectic mix of mediums including fused glass, paintings, photography, bead work, turned wood and more.  This show will run through February and March.

Please join us for First Friday on March 1st from 5 to 7 pm.  Refreshments will be served.  We hope you will stop by to see the many aspects and dimensions of passion and compassion.  Enjoy!
