Potter Kim Nielsen for September First Friday

Ptarmigan Arts Gallery is proud to host Kim Nielsen for our September First Friday Pop-up Show!  Kim is a wonderful potter and her ceramics are colorful, unique and endearing.  Her show will be on both Friday (September 3rd) and Saturday (September 4th).  She is joining us from Anchorage for this special exhibit.

Kim Nielsen has been a ceramics hobbyist since her first pottery lesson in 1998.  Her educational background includes several years of ceramics classes at UAA as well as continuing education workshops with professional potters.

Kim currently is making high-fired functional and sculptural porcelain pottery.  She recently retired from a 25-year career in engineering.  Kim said, “I use my engineer problem-solving skills to create pottery forms that are structural and in many ways pushing the limits of the materials by altering and carving the clay—often to the point of failure.”

Besides living in Alaska, Kim’s background in ocean sciences has provided an infinite source of inspiration for her works.  Kim will have a selection of functional pottery available in her Pop-up show on Friday, September 3rd  from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Saturday, September 4th from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Kim will be available to talk about her background and her unique style on both days!  Don’t miss this opportunity to see her functional as well as sculptural porcelain pottery!
