nature forms in clay

Welcome New Artist Krista Etzwiler

Ptarmigan Arts Gallery welcomes our new member, Krista Etzwiler.  Krista brings a unique style of ceramic art and she will be a wonderful addition to our artists.  Krista makes decorative ceramic pieces that are attached to driftwood.  Much of her artwork resembles shells and tidepool creatures while others look like mushrooms and even waves.  She also makes magnets using the  colorful shell looking pieces.

Krista’s artist statement:  “As a ceramic artist based in Homer, I work with clay to explore my own formation.  Through each piece, I investigate how our life experiences can shape and reshape our destination, both metaphorically and literally.  I am fascinated by the unexpected shifts, those which we might not observe while the transformation is taking place, like raw clay in an artist’s hands.  My work celebrates the power of time to tell the stories that have shaped us, acknowledging the beauty in each creation and the complexities of our own ever-changing journeys.”

Krista’s artwork statement:  “I enjoy bringing nature-inspired works to life.  Using organic hand-formed clay, driftwood, glass, and a variety of color combinations, each of my creations are unique and have a bright, cheerful character.  With each of these decorative pieces, I experiment with a variety of shapes and textures to capture the vibrant beauty of the outdoors.  Each piece is a story of exploration, emotion and discovery, conveying its own feelings and experiences to be interpreted by the individual.”

See below for a quick view of Krista’s colorful and unique ceramics.  She now has her artwork on display and we encourage one and all to come by to look at her unique take on color and clay.  Enjoy!
