En Plein Air
By Homer Plein Air Group
The Ptarmigan Arts Gallery Back Room Gallery (BRG) will host the En Plein Air show for the month of October. The Homer Plein Air Group will showcase their artwork that began a few years ago with two friends. Today it has grown to an open group now encompassing all media.
Plein air painting embraces the challenge of being outdoors and capturing the constantly shifting light. When artists are outside, they experience the feel of the wind and sun, the sound of the tide and the birds, and the smell of local scents. Their challenge then is to capture it all in a painting that relays more than just a visual message.
For the artists, environmental changes of rain, fog, sun, clouds, and shadows change position and hue, and what captured their imagination at first may not exist two hours later! So speed becomes imperative that just adds to the challenge, but the experience is also an inspiration for plein air artists!
Please join us for artwork by Homer Plein Air Group members Cindy Nelson, Karen Jackman, Diane Spence, Kathi Drew, and Donna Martin. This group meets once a week during the summer at different locations and welcomes new members.
The opening reception is Friday, October 5 from 5-7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The BRG show En Plein Air will be on display from October 5 through October 30. Come view the outdoor artwork in a whole new light!
