Surprises from Toby’s Attic
Selected Works by Toby Tyler
By popular demand, Ptarmigan Arts is extending its Back Room Gallery show Surprises from Toby’s Attic by renowned Homer artist R.W “Toby” Tyler. The updated show will run through the end of April, with a First Friday reception on April 1 from 5-7 p.m.
The show will continue the theme of treasures and surprises unearthed from the recesses of Toby’s attic. Selected works from Toby’s collection will be added for the month of April. The retrospective exhibition of artwork created as far back as the 1950’s and as recently as 2014 includes Toby’s signature watercolor and ink originals and a collection of original watercolor paintings.
Sets of notecards and notepapers, botanical prints suitable for framing, and framed prints from his original watercolors are featured in the show. Cards, prints, and unframed artwork can be taken at the time of purchase.
Back Room Gallery visitors have been fascinated with the custom jigsaw puzzle printed from a digital image of Toby’s original oil and palette knife painting. Visitors are invited to pull up a chair and help put the puzzle together. Puzzles are available through Ptarmigan Arts by special order.
The most endearing aspect of the show is Toby’s new work, created with oils and a palette knife in the last few months as part of his recovery from a stroke in December of 2014. These sought-after new pieces will be on display and available for purchase.
