A LOCAL COOPERATIVE GALLERY

Into the Woods

By George Overpeck, Ted Heuer, and Dan Fischer

Ptarmigan Arts Back Room Gallery (BRG) ventures Into the Woods for the month of September. This BRG show will feature three of the gallery’s woodworkers: George Overpeck, Ted Heuer, and Dan Fischer.

Wood is almost magical. When we wish to guard ourselves against evil or guarantee good luck, we sometimes say ‘touch wood’ or ‘knock on wood’. And wood becomes more and more beautiful as it ages. The wood’s color deepens, the patina from being touched invites more touching, and the grain reveals its mystery.

These three artists have a gift for making items out of wood. Their artwork invites touch—and not to ward off evil, but to enhance our home and everyday life.

George Overpeck will feature bowls and spheres turned from local woods. Ted Heuer will present live edge bowls, dizzy bowls and pool cues. Dan Fischer will include a marquetry pedestal, veneer hanging fixture, and driftwood and stone lamps and sculpture.

The First Friday reception is on September 4. Into the Woods will be available for viewing until the end of September. These unique woodworkers and their beautiful creations are not to be missed. See you there to enjoy the elegance and magic of wood!
